The 'Cuda was introduced in the Plymouth Barracuda line in 1970 and represented the performance model of the Mopar Pony Cars. The new for '70 Barracuda's were 5 inches wider than their predecessors, mostly to make room for the big-block 440 and Hemi engines under the hood. Very stylish and aggressive looking, the Barracuda was part of Chrysler's Rapid Transit System, consisting of the performance model 'Cuda, the GTX, Sport Fury GT, Road Runner and Duster 340. The 'Cuda itself was advertised as the Rapid Transit Authority and with some justification as a 4-speed Hemi 'Cuda was tested at 13.10 seconds and 107 miles per hour in the quarter mile. Besides the performance engines, the 'Cudas also sported heavy duty suspensions, brakes and rear axles, different than the Barracuda and Grand Coupe models. In 1973 the 'Cuda got a new grille and tape stripes on the body sides plus revised seats. The performance was still there and a 'Cuda today is a prized possession of any Chrysler performance fan.
