The Car that
Saved Lincoln
1939
Lincoln™ Zephyr Convertible Coupe
Gave
Birth to the Continental
The Ford Motor Company was desperately trying to keep their luxury Lincoln
division alive in the 1930’s when the
Depression had cut sales to less than 40 per week. Working with the Briggs body
company, they designed the lowest priced V-12 on the market, the Zephyr. This
design sold 20,000 cars per year in the late 1930’s, both saving Lincoln and
providing the basis for the first Continentals in the early 1940’s.
