Arthur BARLOWE

  General Notes:

In 1584 in the company of Philip Amada, each commanding a small vessel, he (Arthur) visited the coast of North America for the purpose of selecting a site for the establishmeent of Raleigh's proposed colony. His report led Raleigh to select Roanoke Island, off North Carolina.
